About Us

CHEF STANTI After completing this formal training as chef, Stanti Schönbächler started his international career in London; continued on to Canada and eventually settled in the United States. In 1982, as sous chef at the Brasseries Restaurant in New York City, he gained invaluable experience which allowed him to grow his career as executive chef at renowned establishments such as the Rockefeller Center Restaurants in New York City, The Hollywood Diner in California and the Panevino Restaurant in Washington D.C. From 1989 to 1991 he took reign at the newly renovated Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. In 1991, while searching New England for a place to call our own, we were drawn to the rolling Green Mountains which reminded Stanti of his native Switzerland. Since opening in January of 1992 we have provided our guests with many memorable dining experiences. Chef Stanti - "I found my American home in Vermont".

The restaurant is open everyday from 5:30 pm except Monday's; and year-a-round except for the two weeks before Thanksgiving. On Sunday's the gourmet brunch starts at 10 am Phone : 1-802-446-2099

The Inn

The roads that brought them to Vermont started for Stanti in Switzerland, his 'Heimat', then to New York City and Washington D.C. where he established himself as a well known executive chef at the Kennedy Center. Soo, a New York City native worked as events planner for Marriott and later as director of catering for Restaurant Associates. The Schönbächler's decided to raise their family in the country. Vermont was the magnet because it reminded Stanti of his native land. Choosing the Wallingford village, they worked hard to open their dream restaurant - it has become known for its hospitality and European/New American food with a hint of the Far East!
